Day of Adventure

On Friday, David and I drove into the mountains and across Independence Pass.  The pass closes after the first big snowfall of the year and opens again around June.  It opened early this year due to low snowfall this winter. The road is curvy, steep, and narrow for much of the way.  It’s a beautiful drive up...you’re at the level of all the Aspen trees and see all the mountains' peaks so clearly.  Once you get to the top you’re at an elevation of just over 12,000 ft.  The temperature had dropped about 30 degrees once we reached the highest point.  We had a sandwich at the top and hoped to watch a storm roll in.  No storm...but we did get some snowfall :)

This picture shows part of a ghost town we saw on the way up the pass.
I love these old buildings!
We also attempted to drive over Hagerman Pass.  This pass was crazy rough and surrounded by steep cliffs.  It has an elevation of almost 12,000 ft.  Once we reached the top, we looked down to see a beautiful view of Turquoise Lake.
A top view of Turquoise Lake
Unfortunately, we weren't able to complete the pass.  At the top, we ran into a deep snow covered road.  We weren't sure our four wheel drive could handle this snow... so we decided to turn around (lucky we had a place to make the turn). Guess this just means we'll have to go back and try it again...or maybe he'll forget about it....

We also drove through Leadville, CO and saw some beautiful old buildings...

Love this old church/school...?

Anniversary Day

David and I had a wonderful anniversary celebration on Tuesday.  The day was a quiet one...David worked and I sat around most of the day.  I've been off the entire week due to a viral form of pink eye I developed, which is extremely communicable.  I'm counting down the days until contacts are part of my life again.  David and talked about dinner in downtown, but decided not to chance spreading this pink eye around. So...we enjoyed a quiet evening in our quaint little home.  We decided to have pasta that evening for our anniversary dinner.  David grilled chicken and we created a cream sauce to pour over our pasta.  It turned out delicious and  our quiet evening at home turned out to be perfect!

Happy Anniversary to us!  Three years today :)

Three Years Today

Our first picture ever...In Hot Springs Village

It’s hard to believe that today marks year 3 of marriage and just over 5 years of being together.  We’ve had fun times and sad times; good times and bad times in these last few years.  We’ve had moments of laughter and moments of tears.  But I wouldn’t change any of it; it's only made us stronger.  It’s been 3 of the greatest years of my life.  I remember so much of that weekend in May 2009.  Lots of emotions surrounded us as well as lots of memories we will cherish for the rest of our lives together.  We had all of our friends and family there for the weekend, celebrating our love and life together.  That weekend was perfect and more of blessing than we could ask for.
One of my favorites :)
The night before the wedding we had rehearsal dinner down by the pool at David’s parents' house.  We had a beautiful setting with delicious catered food for the entire wedding party and family.  We enjoyed listening to family members and friends tell stories about our relationship, accounts of when we first started dating, and their views on our relationship.  Later that evening, many friends and family members joined us at the hotel for joint wedding party.

The next morning, all of my beautiful bridesmaids and myself ate breakfast in Hot Springs and then headed to Lake Valley church to get ready.  The mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and other family members helped prepare the church and the reception hall.

I was anxious of course and at times, feeling as if I was in a panic and wouldn’t get everything done.  David of course was relaxed as usual…could you expect anything else?  Little to my surprise, the wedding couldn’t have gone any smoother or more perfect.  Anything could have gone wrong…the cake could have fallen apart (which it did) and it would have been fine…I married my best friend that day.  We’ve spent three of the best years together…through all the times we’ve had.  Through everything, we know that we are loved by eachother unconditionally and know that we have the love and support of our wonderful family and friends.  We’re two very lucky and blessed people and we couldn’t be happier with our little lives.

The whole gang :)

Yeah we did....we called the Hogs
Couldn't have had it any other way....

Some things about our relationship:

-David had a Motorola Razor cell phone when we got together…it’s been a while
-We’ve moved 5 times already: 3 times in Conway, to Fayetteville, to GWS…we’ll be at #6 in about 2 weeks
-We’ve traveled to It-ly twice
-Watched the entire series of Desperate Housewives in a year
-Enjoyed 20 inches of snow in Fayetteville
-In three years, we’ve visited Louisville, KY; Chicago, IL; New York, City; New Orleans, LA; Denver, CO; Dallas, TX; Orange Beach, AL; Florida...
I am so excited to see where the future will lead with my best friend.  We’re overly blessed to have been able to make all of these memories together so far!

Weekend Adventure

Scenery just before Telluride
It's been a while since David and I have ventured out of our little abode in GWS.  But this past weekend, we journeyed off toward Southern Colorado.  We made stops in Telluride and Ouray, Colorado...two of the most unique, gorgeous, and Mayberry-like towns you could see in CO.  We drove through Paonia and Montrose, making our way to our first stop in Telluride.  We had lunch at “Baked in Telluride” where all their breads and pastries are homemade.  We had plans to ride a 20 minute gondola ride up to Mountain Village.  Unfortunately, it was closed that day for maintenance.  So we headed over to see Bridal Veil Falls, which is a 365 foot waterfall and the highest in Colorado.  The waterfall is next to Black Bear Pass…easily one of the most dangerous trails in Colorado.

Stopped by Hays Creek Falls on our way to Telluride

I can't take credit for this photo, but I wanted you to see Black Bear Pass.
You can see the 365 ft. fall next to all these switchbacks or "steps,"
which is Black Bear Pass.  Unbelievable and crazy, but people really do drive this.

From Telluride, we traveled about an hour up to Ouray.  We fell in love with this little town’s beauty and peaceful feeling.  We stayed at Timber Ridge Lodge which was a very pleasant stay.  The room was clean, cozy, and just the nicest, friendliest owner a guest could ask for.  In Ouray, we saw the Box Canyon waterfall...amazing.  The walls around you are enormous and extend up about 100 ft. past the waterfall.  The sound of this waterfall is incredibly loud, letting you know how powerful it is.

That evening we had dinner at the Ouray Brewery and then headed over to Ourayle House Brewery.  This brewery is ran by one man, Mr. Grumpy Pants, who brews his own beer made with local natural ingredients.  This was a interesting and homey place.  David and I enjoyed trying a taste and playing a game of “Bananagrams.”

A night out in Ouray
The next morning we grabbed a bite to eat at the Artisan Bakery and then made a short little hike to see Cascade Falls, which is right off the main drag in Ouray.  It’s definitely worth the hike to see this waterfall shoot out of the red canyon.

Cascade Falls...Ouray, Colorado
After leaving Ouray, we headed back toward GWS, making a pit stop at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison..a national park along the Gunnison River.  There is lots of God’s masterpieces in this park.  Along the parks’ stops, you see huge canyons with the Gunnison River flowing below.  One of the main attractions here is the Painted Wall.  This wall is the tallest canyon wall in Colorado (2,250 ft).  If the Empire State Building was standing beside the Painted Wall, the building would almost reach half way.
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

At Black Canyon of the Gunnison

From here we made our way to the largest mesa in the country..the Grand Mesa National Forest.  The highest point in elevation is approximately 11,000 ft.  The weather changed once we made it to the top... the temperature dropped about 20 degrees and it started snowing.  Lakes were still frozen at the top...

We had a fabulous weekend together and enjoyed seeing some more beautiful places!
Hope you enjoy our pictures of this little adventure!
